Without sacrificing the integrity of their design style, this trio is noticeably more splendid – with their shiny golden accents – than are the other characters Bobbe and Jeff usually create, but then these are the Three Wise Men who traveled a great distance to welcome the newborn Jesus, so grand they must be. Robed for travel, each king is layered in richly colored wraps, extravagant in their lack of pattern, yet with a real sense of finery captured in the flow of each garment. The use of shading in the colors along with the trim effectively adds dimension and drama. Each gift is exquisitely presented in a shiny golden urn as was likely for kings of this stature. Still not to be too traditional – one of the kings has brought his cat along.
